1-Change lane without signalling, or signal at the very last minute?

2-Cut other people lane and stop THEN on hazard lights to pickup/dropoff passenger causing car behind to jam brake?

3-Like to cut other pple lane recklessly on the highway?

4-When accident like to chut stunt, even when really their fault still try to shirk responsibility?

Not saying all, but some, just want to know if got any reason why.

    • hi,

1- if u are observant, you'll find more private cars than taxis doing this.

2- most times becos of pax flagging taxis suddenly or asking cabby to "stop here", otherwise MOST taxi drivers will filter to the appropriate lane prior to picking up or letting pax alight. Due to the nature of the service, expect sudden stops and drive defensively when following a taxi is best.

3- this one also equally bad on private cars, esp the expensive makes. should be in the minority for cabbies as rice bowl easily broken when caught.

4- company policy lor. must not accept liability otherwise MAY get sacked and also may end up paying for everything out of own pocket. Let the insurance companies and/or traffic police investigate. Truth will out, cos every traffic got either red light camera or monitoring camera (round ones). No way to escape. Unless suay happened in carpark or unmonitored roads. this case normally 50/50.

      and..yes i drive a taxi too.

I hope the TS one day drive a taxi for just a day , try it .

Then u'll see many morons on the road , far more than cabbies .

    • Hi ALN,

Glad to join the forum. Been reading the posts for quite sometime already, just never got around to registering. Just KC will do fine. I'm a Comfort Sonata hirer working the morning shift full time. Started FT this year.

OMO first 2 months and the previous week since my nite relief retired. Poolman's spot on...OMO really no life. Happily, just found a nice guy as relief.

Thanks to Poolman's tips, quite smooth sailing after the 2nd month. But the hard way (left, right, center) is really the best way to learn and the street directory is the best helper. Thanks alot Pool!

Thought of starting a new thread to share shortcuts learnt the hard way. (ex. the most common one which everybody and his brother knows is the Raffles Blvd/Raffles Ave shortcut through Marina Mandarin Hotel). I've learnt quite a few more which are especially useful when responding to bookings. But got second thoughts as this forum is public...if pax get to know these shortcuts..(as Poolman would've said..knn) - break my own rice bowl. I think "more say more wrong".

I'll say kns..waiting for $1.33. Should be due soon.

    • From Tekka toward Bukit Timah Road to Mt Elizabeth Hospital avoid Newton circus that round. Use Winstedt road exit before approaching Newton Circus on the left shorter journey headon to Clemenceau Ave to Cairhill Road.

    • a few..

      1. Going to 1 Raffles Link : go into the carpark at Marina Mandarin, follow sign board to Raffles Link, turn right to 1 Raffles Link.

      2. Thomson road to Tanglin/Orchard, avoid traffic lights : whitley rd, dyson rd, chancery hill rd, chancery lane, balmoral rd, anderson rd, orange grove rd. detour at chancery lane to mt. rosie, malcom rd to access stevens rd. more useful for avoiding traffic jams rather than shortcut actually.

3.stevens rd (small lane) next to The Draycott condo at Draycott Park..joins to main stevens road directly at the sloping u-turn to scotts rd.

      4. carpark jurong east st31<=> jurong east ave 1

      5. getting to upper circular rd from eu tong sen rd, no need to u turn along hill st. from eu tong sen turn right to carpenter st, turn left to carpark, exit straight ahead to upper circular rd.

      6. grange rd <=> tanglin rd : one tree hill, jalan tupai, tomlinson rd (also to cuscaden rd)

      7. river valley <=> grange rd : nathan rd, chatsworth rd (chatsworth rd/ave, jervois rd all quite useful for moving to & from grange/tanglin)

      8. chartwell, li hwan : useful for escaping serangoon gdn/lor chuan

      9. toa payoh lor.1 to thomson rd : use toa payoh rise (1 way only)

      10. clementi ave 3 from PIE/clementi ave 6 : u turn at clementi ave 4 instead of turning right on commonwealth ave west at the ntuc (takes too long)

      11. loyang ave to pasir ris dr 3 (from changi village) : avoid the right turn. on loyang ave, turn left into the shell station and right into new loyang link, go straight for dr 3

      12. jalan haji alias along sixth ave to get back to the coronation/duchess area

      13. bukit timah rd after sixth ave (condo area) to holland rd : old holland rd/wilby rd/blackmore rd => holland link/plain/road

acutally many more...but we should always learn new ones to help ourselves respond to bookings quickly and best of all don't need to fly. 5 min got time to go toilet somemore. rotfl

    • kin,

faster way to cairnhill, from winstedt rd, turn right into clemenceau ave north, then turn left into anthony rd, come out is cairnhill rd straight rd. good to use if you want to go to scotts rd. totally siam newton circus.

theres much more private cars than taxis, hence naturally you will say more private cars does those stunts than cabs..

personally, i agree most with no.2 of cabbies suddenly cutting into my lane and jamming brake to pick up someone

    • actually just guesstimate only, as in private cars maybe 5 times that of taxis, but number of hours taxis spent on the road also a few multiples that of private cars. just simple estimation only, not detailed & accurate data like those LTA planners can give to the Transport Minister. (taxi drivers earn $300+ a day wor)
